This week must be ice cream week for the Walters’ family. Starting Tuesday – it was mommy cat’s (Golf’s) day off from work so I was thinking about what would make our evening feel completed and truly joyful, so we decided we should give “Lick” honest ice cream shop on South Lamar in Austin a try, since I got a 5-star recommendation from a friend of mine at work that this place is a MUST try ice cream shop in Austin.
We tried to get there a little early because we were afraid that it might have been packed, since it was one of those hot days and the temperature went up to almost 90 degrees. We ran into a slightly problem because it is our very first time. We did not know where the place is exactly and did not know where can we park (without being towed – they’re very quick to tow in Austin if you park in the wrong place). So, we ended up driving around and then managed to park for free in the narrow & low ceilinged parking garage inside the building (which reminds me of parking in Bangkok malls a bit..LOL). Luckily, it wasn’t packed like we thought I would be…what a relief.
I LOVE coconut and I am also a big fan of Goat Cheese so I got one scoop of Coconut Caramel Cream and a scoop of Goat Cheese, Thyme & Honey in a waffle bowl.
Steve decided on two scoops as well – 1 Coffee and Cream and the other Texas Sheet Cake. Alivia my oldest daughter got a scoop of Fresh Mint and Chocolate Chip in her chocolate waffle bowl. And Ashley our little one got a scoop of Roasted Beets & Fresh Mint in her cake cone – she chose the flavor based on her favorite color. Below, is her expression towards Lick Honest Ice Creams :).I personally was not impressed with the flavors I chose, especially with Coconut Caramel Cream. I didn’t think I tasted any coconut (or just my crocodile tongue).
P.S. I’m always teasing around with Steve that I can eat pretty much anything and don’t know the different – as being said my tongue is tough just like crocodile’s tongue. LOL!!
I prefer my ice cream not too sweet ,but more creamy. So, I like the idea that Lick ice cream is not super sweet but unfortunately Lick was not as creamy as I like and it has more of an icy consistency. I am not a hateful person but I probably will skip to coming back or maybe I should try different flavor for my next visit.
Steve’s opinion was that he was all excited before visiting this place, because they have so many varieties, and they are all interesting flavors he wanted to try, but overall Lick was disappointing for him too. The flavors are not so punching for him, the scoop is a size of a Golf ball, so it seems a bit pricy compare to the size. A 2 scoop bowl is $3.99 and if you want a cone or waffle bowl it’s an extra $0.99. They also have a homemade chocolate sauce and that’s $0.50 extra.
Alivia and Ashley, they both seemed to enjoy it and they said they liked it. So, we will wait and see what everyone has to say and decide on our next ice cream adventure. You can see the list of everyday flavors, seasonal flavors, and they make ice cream sandwiches too – which look pretty interesting.
