Before I get to the true “About” part of this page I have a confession to make…
You were misled by the title of this blog. I am neither cool, nor a cat. I suppose you figured the cat part, simply because it’s really tough to type using paws, and cats aren’t huge bloggers in general, preferring more solitary pursuits.
Anyway, I am not a “cool cat”, I am simply a middle aged guy who loves to cook and have finally gotten over my fear of photography and decided to start a food/cooking blog. You can discount the fact that I am an expat living in Bangkok, which may sound cool at first. In truth, my life in Bangkok is somewhat mundane, consisting of taking care of my daughter, cooking and cleaning, shopping, and the occasional trip to the beautiful beaches that Thailand is so famous for.
I can at least promise you that I’ll do my best to deliver “hot food”…unless it’s a sorbet or some such. No point in delivering THAT hot. It would simply be a soup then,
As far as cooking goes, I have no formal training, though I did spend some part of my life in professional kitchens. What I do have is a passion for cooking and food that goes back some 30 years or so.
Oh, and if you’re looking for cookies and cakes and all kinds of roasted goodies you’ll have to look elsewhere. As is true of many condos in Bangkok, we have no oven. So, no baking, no roasting and no oven braising. I make do pretty darn well without though, and eventually I promise you we will get an oven and then you’ll beg me to stop using it!
Considering that we live in Thailand and my wife cooks exclusively Thai you can also expect to find a broad and interesting range of Thai dishes posted here over the coming months and years. With all the fresh Thai ingredients right here at my fingertips it wouldn’t make sense NOT to cook Thai whenever possible. Even though I am surrounded by Thai food, in many cases the fresh and nutritious quality of Thai food is compromised by street vendors. It is definitely more nutritious and delicious to make these Thai classics like pad thai at home, though it is always tempting to simply eat out since there is such a huge selection and no clean up!
So, that’s about it for me. If you have any questions, or feel like just saying hi or whatever, feel free to drop me an email through the contact form located here. I promise I’ll get back to you quickly.
